BALDWIN PARK (CNS) - A 13-year-old boy who died in a chain-reaction crash involving 10 vehicles on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Baldwin Park was identified by authorities this morning.
Ryan Milliner was killed in the crash that occurred about 1:40 p.m. Sunday on the eastbound 10 Freeway west of the Francisquito Avenue off-ramp, according to California Highway Patrol Officer S. Salama, who investigated the accident, and the Los Angeles County coroner's office.
The crash started when the driver of a 2008 International DuraStar flatbed tow truck in the number 5 lane was unable to stop for traffic ahead of him and rear-ended a 2018 Toyota Corolla driven by a 29-year-old La Puente woman who suffered major blunt force trauma injuries, Salama said.
The 32-year-old tow truck driver from Pomona also rear-ended a 2018 Nissan Murano with Milliner in the right rear seat. Milliner was killed and the driver and three other occupants suffered major to moderate injuries. The Murano was in the number 4 lane and the collision sent it into the center divider wall, Salama said.
A 2004 Dodge Ram truck with two Norwalk residents collided into the right front of the Murano before both vehicles came to a stop.
The 2018 Corolla was pushed into the rear of a 2019 Kia Niro occupied by a 45-year-old Culver City man who was not injured, the officer said. The Kia rear-ended a 2008 Honda Odyssey and a 2006 Honda CRV whose sole occupants were not reported injured.
A 2018 Lexus IS200T with four Covina residents couldn't stop and also struck the Murano, but none of the Lexus occupants were reported injured, Salama said.
The Honda CRV rear-ended a 2000 Corolla in the number 5 lane, causing it to rear-end the tow truck, the officer said. The three occupants in that Corolla suffered major to minor injuries.
One of the injured was airlifted to a hospital.
