Sword-Wielding Las Vegas Man Shot And Killed After Charging Police Officer

A sword-wielding Las Vegas man was shot and killed after he lunged toward a pair of police officers. Two officers responded to a disturbance call at an apartment building and found 40-year-old Justin Charland standing near a second-floor stairwell yelling and wildly swinging around a large sword.

The officers tried to deescalate the situation and asked Charland to drop the sword and come downstairs. Charland refused and slowly made his way down the steps towards Officer Vincen Segura and his partner.

Footage from Segura's body camera captured the moment that Charland rushed toward him with the sword. Segura fired off three shots and Charland dropped to the ground. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officer Segura was placed on routine paid administrative leave while the department's Force Investigation Team and Critical Incident Review Team review the case.
