Even if President Donald Trump and California Governor Gavin Newsom give four thumbs up, the Mayor of Los Angeles may still point both of his down.

In a Monday conference call, Eric Garcetti indicated that "large gatherings such as concerts and sporting events may not be approved in the city for at least 1 year."

Other operations, including small businesses, could be reopened gradually - in phases stretching over a 6 to 10 month timeline.

During an appearance on CNN, Garcetti said, “It’s difficult to imagine us getting together in the thousands any

time soon, so I think we should all be prepared for that this year.”

“I think we all have never wanted science to work so quickly, but until there’s either a vaccine, some sort of pharmaceutical intervention or herd immunity, the science is the science,” he added. “Public health officials have been very clear: We’ve got many miles to walk before we’re going to be back in those environments.”
