LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped today to its lowest amount since Oct. 25, 2017, decreasing 1.6 cents to $3.057.
The average price has dropped 33 consecutive days and 36 of the past 37, decreasing 51 cents, including 2.1 cents on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The average price is 11.2 cents less than a week ago, 48.8 cents lower than a month ago and 67 cents below what is was one year ago. It has dropped 55.8 cents since the start of the year.
The Orange County average price dropped to its lowest amount since Oct. 27, 2017, decreasing 1.4 cents to $3.035. It has dropped 38 consecutive days, decreasing 48.4 cents, including 1.1 cents on Thursday.
The Orange County average price is 10.2 cents less than one week ago, 46.5 cents lower than one month ago and 64.4 cents below what it was one year ago. It has dropped 51 cents since the start of the year.
Prices are expected to continue to drop because “gasoline demand has continued to weaken,” as many people heed stay-at-home orders stemming from the coronavirus outbreak, according to Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.
“California reformulated gasoline production fell by more than 25% and inventories increased over the past week, so we expect to see retail prices continue to decline,” Spring said.
