LAPD Officers Required To Cover Face While In Public

Los Angeles Metro System Sees 70 Percent Drop In Ridership Due To Coronavirus

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - All Los Angeles Police Department officers are now required to wear masks while in public in an attempt to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

“Effective today, you may see your local LAPD officers wearing either surgical masks or non-medical face coverings while in public,” Chief Michel Moore said Thursday.

The mask requirement comes after two additional LAPD employees tested positive for COVID-19 Thursday, bringing the total to 35.

One employee has recovered and returned to work, and two are hospitalized, according to Jessica Kellogg, public information officer for the city's Emergency Operations Center.

It was not immediately clear how many of the patients are officers, but on Wednesday the LAPD reported that 27 officers had tested positive.
