Another 521 cases of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, were reported by L.A. County officials on Friday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 4,566. Dr. Barbara Ferrer, the head of the county's Public Health Department also reported another 11 deaths in the county, bringing the death toll locally to 89.
According to Dr. Ferrer, at least 7 of those who passed away were over the age of 65 and all of them had underlying health conditions. One person was between the age of 31 and 45 and also had underlying health conditions.
At least 67 institutions, including nursing homes, assisted living facilities and jails have reported COVID-19 cases, Dr. Ferrer said, adding that at least 11 people in those settings in L.A. county have died. The locations are currently being investigated.
The number of confirmed cases around the Southland include:
- Los Angeles County: 4,566 cases - 89 deaths
- Orange County: 711 cases - 13 deaths
- Riverside County: 493 cases - 14 deaths
- Ventura County: 177 cases - 6 deaths
- San Bernardino County: 304 cases - 8 deaths
- San Diego County: 966 cases - 16 deaths.
Statewide, there are more than 11,394 cases with at least 253 deaths reported. Health officials say there are more than 267,138 cases nationwide with the death toll reaching 6,852 by Friday afternoon.
