Uber company officials said today that the ride-sharing service will offer discounted trips for any families who are traveling to any of the Los Angeles Unified School District's 64 Grab-and-Go food centers that have been opened in response to schools shutting down amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The discounts are good for 25% off the per-ride cost, up to $10 on UberX and UberXL. To get the discount, enter the code: LAUSD2020 in the payment section of the app. The code is good between 7 a.m. and noon Monday through Friday.
Children and teenagers younger than 18 who use the discount must be accompanied by an adult, Uber said.
The discounts cannot be combined with any other offers or discounts and they do not apply to any surcharges, government fees, tolls or tips. The driver's earnings will not be affected by those riders who use the code.
The offer isn't available on Uber Eats, JUMP Bikes or for trips used on business profiles.
On Monday, LAUSD officials announced that schools would remain closed through May 1. The district set up food centers as a way to help keep students fed as hundreds of thousands depend on the daily meals provided by schools.
The Grab-and-Go food centers are open 7-11 a.m. Monday through Friday. You can find your nearest Grab-and-Go food center by visiting the district's website: achieve.lausd.net/resources.
