LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Placido Domingo, who resigned as general manager of Los Angeles Opera in October, has contracted COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, the famed opera star said today

“I feel it is my moral duty to announce to you that I have tested positive,” the 79-year-old announced Sunday on his personal Facebook page.

He added that he is in self-isolation with his family and is feeling well despite having fever and a cough.

Domingo was hit by several accusations of sexual harassment in 2019, which ultimately led to his departure from the L.A. Opera. In February, he apologized for his past behavior.

“I have taken time over the last several months to reflect on the allegations that various colleagues of mine have made against me. I respect that these women finally felt comfortable enough to speak out, and I want them to know that I am truly sorry for the hurt that I caused them,” Domingo said then.

“I accept full responsibility for my actions, and I have grown from this experience. I understand now that some women may have feared expressing themselves honestly because of a concern that their careers would be adversely affected if they did so. While that was never my intention, no one should ever be made to feel that way,” he said.
