More Rain, Snow Coming to Southland

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Rain was expected to start falling later today, with snow levels expected to increase in the mountains as a cold low pressure system approaches from the west, forecasters said.

Showers would “rapidly develop over the next few hours,” according to the National Weather Service, with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the early evening.

“Unsettled and cool conditions” were expected to continue through Thursday.

The snow level in the Los Angeles County mountains would drop to about 5,000 feet overnight, the NWS said, with 4 to 8 inches of snow expected.

Los Angeles County officials issued a cold weather alert for all of next week due to wind-chill temperatures that are expected to be below 32 degrees in the Antelope Valley and the mountain areas.

“Children, the elderly, and people with disabilities or special medical needs are especially vulnerable during cold weather. Extra precaution should be taken to ensure they don't get too cold when they are outside,” said Dr. Muntu Davis, Los Angeles County Health Officer. “There are places where people can go to stay warm, such as shelters or other public facilities. We also want to remind people not to use stoves, barbeques or ovens to heat their homes due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.”

Another rain system will move in late Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the NWS.
