DIAMOND BAR (CNS) - Authorities are hunting for three masked robbers who tied up and beat a Diamond Bar couple before making off with valuable jewelry, sheriff's officials said today.
Investigators say the couple, who are in the gem business, were apparently followed home to their residence in the 600 block of Blenfield Place around 9 p.m. Thursday.
As they parked their car, three men in all-black clothing approached, according to Lt. Mario Avola of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. One of the three robbers brandished a firearm and beat up the couple in the garage area, he said.
They left the pair's hands and feet zip-tied and entered the house, he said. Inside were two teenage children. The robbers demanded to know the location of the family safe, but found out there wasn't one, Avola said.
The estimated loss of jewelry has not yet been confirmed, said Sgt. Michael Maher of the department's Major Crimes Bureau, Burglary Robbery Task Force. Maher said they hope to have a realistic estimate of the loss by Saturday.
The husband and wife were taken to a hospital with facial bruises, but are expected to make a full recovery.
Major Crimes Bureau Burglary Robbery Task Force detectives are now handling the investigation, Maher said.
