Deadly Fire Sparked By Woman Throwing Flaming Hand Sanitizer At Girlfriend

injured was A deadly apartment fire in Hartford, Connecticut that left one person dead and four people critically injured was caused by a flaming bottle of hand sanitizer. Authorities said that 28-year-old Destiny Waite got into an argument with her girlfriend and threw the bottle across the room.

As the bottle exploded, the fire quickly spread from Waite's second-floor apartment and engulfed the entire five-story building. When the fire department arrived on the scene, residents were "hanging out the windows" as they tried to escape the flames.

"You couldn't see anything. It was full of smoke and everything. And people were yelling, and glass was breaking," David Caldwell told WVIT. "There was black smoke and everything. You couldn't see anything hardly."

Firefighters rescued more than 45 people from the building, and more than 30 people were taken to the hospital. Two adults and two children are in critical but stable condition. One person, identified as Jerome Kyser, 50, died due to smoke inhalation.

Waite was taken into custody and is facing charges of murder, arson and four counts of first-degree assault.
