A driver in Louisiana was pulled over after a cop noticed they were driving around with a license plate that expired 23 years ago. The Slidell Police Department shared a photo of the expired plate on Facebook, joking, "We can't make this stuff up."
"For those of you who like to 'switch tags,' at least give us a good challenge and don't use a license plate that is over 20 years old and expired back in 1997!"
When asked about the expired plate, the driver casually replied, "Sorry, officer. I've been busy lately and totally forgot to renew my vehicle registration," and then promised to take care of it when they got home.
Louisiana issued that style of license plate from 1993 through December 31, 2001. They reissued the plates in July 2004 and then discontinued them in February 2005.
The department did not say if the driver was cited, and it is unknown if the delinquent driver renewed their registration when they got home.
