Kris Ankarlo joined Gary and Shannon today to discuss shellfish sex, and no, you are not hallucinating. You read that correctly.
In case you were not aware, apparently, mussels get especially weird.
Last Friday, Ankarlo talked with a representative at Holdfast Aquaculture, who discussed their process on obtaining seeds for oysters, mussels, and kelp.
How do they get these 'seeds' you ask?
Well, according to this representative, it involves sexy music, good lighting, and plankton particles.
Then, they collect the released sperm and eggs and mix them together to sell as a seed product to farmers.
From there, farmers purchase these seeds and set up their own farms.
Indeed, a fascinating yet gross story. To hear more, listen in to their conversation below!
