Drunken Motorist Leads Police On Vehicle Chase With His Baby Inside Minivan

POMONA (CNS) - A drunken motorist with his year-old baby inside his minivan led police in Pomona on a slow speed chase during which he was involved in three minor hit-and-run crashes as well as a felony hit-and-run crash -- with minor injuries -- before being arrested by officers, police said today.

The child's mother called police about 8 p.m. Tuesday to report that Chino resident Anthony Michael Trejo was intoxicated while driving in a Honda minivan and left the area with their year-old baby, the Pomona Police Department reported.

Trejo was spotted driving the minivan in the area of Reservoir Street and County Road. A slow speed pursuit began and the motorist pulled over for a short time.

“The suspect eventually fled the scene and increased his speeds while driving through red lights with a complete disregard for the public's safety," according to a news release. “The active pursuit was cancelled to reduce the risk to the child and community, while we sought air support to follow the vehicle."

The minivan was located a short time later in the 700 block of Washington Avenue, along with the child, who was safe and uninjured inside the vehicle. Trejo fled on foot to a nearby street, where he was eventually captured.

He was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving, felony child endangerment, felony hit-and-run with injury, felony pursuit as well as misdemeanors for driving on a suspended license and violation of a restraining order.
