POMONA (CNS) - Two women were in custody this morning after leading police on a slow speed chase through Pomona and authorities found a gun in the car at the end of the pursuit.
Officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the 1400 block of Garey Avenue about 12:45 a.m. for vehicle code violations and the driver initially stopped nearby on Franklin Avenue and, as officers approached the vehicle, the driver took off, according to Cpl. J. Hernandez of the Pomona Police Department.
A slow speed pursuit began and a passenger in the vehicle, Sonia Sifuentes, 35, of Pomona, bailed out in the area of Bolivar Street and Mayfair Avenue and began running eastbound on Mayfair Avenue. She was quickly captured by officers, Hernandez said.
The pursuit continued until the driver, identified as Valerie Sauers, 30, of Pomona, stopped the vehicle and surrendered. A search of the vehicle turned up a loaded handgun, Hernandez said.
Sauers and Sifuentes were booked at the Pomona city jail on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm and felony evading. At least one of them was also booked for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
