Keys to Mental Toughness

Are you tough? You may go to a gym and do a kick butt bootcamp workout, but what happens when things don't quite go your way? Can you hang in there and drive through the bad times? It's not easy, that's for sure, but there are ways to exercise your mindset as much as your set of abs.

Dr. Wendy talks about mental toughness and breaks down The 4C's.

  • Challenge
  • Commitment
  • Control
  • Confidence

Here's a great example. We just watched the S**er Bowl. You know, the pinnacle game of the NFL, which we're not allowed to say. Even these elite athletes can only get so far if their mental toughness is slagging. In fact, when the Chiefs were down 20-10 in the third quarter, you could see that lots of those guys on the bench were struggling mentally. They already looked like it was over and they'd lost The Big Game big time.

Well, guess what. They got a pep talk from their quarterback who apparently reignited their challenge, commitment, control and confidence. Final score: 31-20 Chiefs. They pulled off an amazing comeback in the 4th quarter that had never been done before. All by getting their mental game straight.

On the show, Dr. Wendy also shares some tips from the Navy SEAL's! If anyone needs to be on point mentally it's these heroes who go in to some of the most dangerous situations imaginable and are expected to perform at the highest level possible.

The cliff notes to the SEALs entail positive self talk, setting goals, and practicing visualization, but you don't want to miss Dr. Wendy go deeper.
