Authorities Warn Against Driving While Impaired Over Super Bowl Weekend

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Authorities today urged Southlanders not to drive while impaired this Super Bowl weekend.

“If you plan on drinking, plan for a ride home with a sober driver,” said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Robert Hill. “Whether your team wins or loses, you'll always get the `W' by not drinking and driving.”

Super Bowl LIV between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

“Driving under the influence of anything that impairs is illegal, including prescriptions, over-the-counter or illicit drugs, and marijuana,” Hill said. “If you take prescription drugs, be mindful of side effects, especially if there is a driving or operating machinery warning on the label.”

People hosting Super Bowl watch parties should have plenty of snacks and non-alcoholic drinks available for designated sober drivers, Hill said.

“If a designated sober driver decides to have a drink, make sure someone else who hasn't been drinking is available to come pick everyone up,” Hill said.

Various law enforcement agencies around the county will increase patrols as a precaution. Anyone seeing someone driving while impaired was urged to call 911.
