LONG BEACH (CNS) - A man was in custody today for allegedly killing a woman and wounding a man in a shooting in Long Beach.

The crime occurred about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in front of the suspect's residence in the 1600 block of West 19th Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Jesus Romero, 46, was booked on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, and was being held on $2 million bail, police said.

Raquel Bramasco DeDavila, 63, of Long Beach died at a hospital, police said. The name of the wounded man was not released.

Officers were sent to the neighborhood on a report that gunshots had been heard, said Shaunna Dandoy of the police department.

“While canvassing the area, officers located a male and a female adult victim,” both had gunshot wounds to their upper bodies,” Dandoy said in a statement. “Officers immediately began lifesaving measures on the female victim, until relieved by Long Beach Fire Department personnel.”

Both victims were taken to a hospital, where DeDavila died. The man was treated for injuries described as not life-threatening.

“Officers quickly learned the suspect was inside a residence in the 1600 block of West 19th Street,” Dandoy said. “A perimeter was established around the residence and the suspect surrendered to officers shortly thereafter.”

Officers searched the residence and found a gun firearm believed used in the crime, Dandoy said.

“At this time, evidence suggests there was a long-term, ongoing personal dispute between the suspect and the victims,” Dandoy said. “The shooting occurred after the suspect observed the victims in front of his residence and walked outside to confront them.”

A woman was detained for questioning during the investigation but was not arrested. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call homicide detectives at 562-570-7244.
