The shooting rampage at a Florida Navy base in December that left three American service members dead has officially been declared an act of terrorism, Attorney General William Barr has announced.
Mohammad Saeed Alshamrani opened fire last month at the base. He was a 21-year-old member receiving training at the Pensacola Naval Air Station.
He was shot to death by a sheriff's deputy who responded to the scene.
On 9/11, Alshamrani posted cryptic messages to social media alluding that a "countdown has begun".
Over the Thanksgiving weekend, he visited the 9/11 terror attacks memorial in New York City.
“He also posted other anti-American, anti-Israeli and jihadi messages on social media and did so two hours before his attack at the naval base,” Mr.Barr said.
The FBI Deputy Director David Bowdich said that during the attack the shooter deliberately fired at pictures of President Trump and another past U.S president. \
Witnesses at the scene also said he was vocal on criticizing American military actions overseas.
