Authorities Arrest Four Youths Suspected in Cell Phone Thefts

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Authorities today announced the arrests of four out of five suspects accused in an organized retail theft ring that targeted cell phone stores in Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino counties.

The Los Angeles Police Department identified the suspects as Damon Levi Williams, 19, and three juveniles between the ages of 14 and 17, whose names were withheld because they are underage. A fifth suspect, believed to be a juvenile, is still at large, according to investigators.

The LAPD released surveillance video of one of the robberies in hopes that the public can help identify that suspect, who is seen in the footage wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.

Information about when and where the other four suspects were arrested was not immediately available.

The robberies took place between Aug. 1 and Dec. 23 between the hours of 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The suspects walked into stores and stole electronic devices from the display tables by cutting or pulling the security cables, the LAPD reported.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to contact Detectives Matthew Gares or James Verner in the LAPD's Commercial Crimes Division at 213-486-6940 or 1-877-LAPD-24-7 after regular business hours. Those wishing to make an anonymous tip can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
