It's a new year!
You know what that means.
That's right. A mass migration of whales is taking place in as up to 27,000 gray whales are going south to the Baja Peninsula.
Along with this migration comes a surge of whale watchers in Southern California.
The Orange County Register reports that the migration season for these whales will last until April.
Education director for the Cabrillo Aquarium Whale Watch Program, Diane Alps, says:
"And now it's not just about gray whales anymore."
"In the mid-2000s, 2007 or 2008, we started to see humpback whales and fin whales. 2010 and 2011 were big blue whale years, so this took us into a year-round (whale season). It's happening all up and down the coast."
People have several options of going whale watching with trips that will set you back between $20 and $40.
Alps says you have a chance to see other natural wonders too like sea turtles.
