A teenager's quick thinking likely saved her life after a pickup truck crushed her boyfriend's 2013 Ford Focus. The teen was sitting in the front seat of the car at a self-service bay at Prestige Car Wash in Taunton, Massachusetts, while her boyfriend was cleaning the vehicle. All of a sudden, a 2019 GMC Sierra started backing up toward the car.
The girl jumped into the backseat as the truck crushed the Ford Focus. The girl only suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Her boyfriend, who was standing by the car, managed to jump out the way and was not hurt.
Police say the driver of the truck, who was in his mid-to-late sixties, did not properly replace his floormats after he had finished vacuuming the interior of his vehicle. The floor mat got stuck on the accelerator, and the truck lurched backward as he put it in reverse. The driver was also hospitalized but was not seriously injured.
“Considering the significant damage to the vehicles involved, it is remarkable that no one was seriously injured in this incident,” Police Chief Edward Walsh said. “We are grateful that everyone is OK.”
The car was able to remain open following the accident but did have to shut down the self-service bay while they repaired the damage.
