Authorities Warn Why You Shouldn't Abbreviate While Writing 2020

Police are warning that abbreviating the year 2020 on documents as a two-digit number may open you up to fraud.

By only writing 2-0 in short hand, scammers could tack on a different year, creating all sorts of problems.

For example marking the date as 1/3/20,could be turned into 1/3/2017.

It's recommended to write out January 3, 2020 or at the very least, 1/3/2020.

Maine's East Millinocket Police Department wrote on Facebook:

"This is very sound advice and should be considered when signing any legal or professional document. It could potentially save you some trouble down the road."
