If you want to know about Sreenivas "Sree" Mokkapati, the 52-year-old hiker from Irvine that went missing on Mount Baldy, KFI has already covered it here.

Now, we've been given a sad update that a rescuer has died during the search.

KTLA reports that 32-year-old Tim Staples was one of 126 volunteers that was searching for the missing hiker. He had volunteered with the West Valley Search & Rescue Team for around 9 years. He was also a high school teacher at Damien High School.

John McMahon, the San Bernadino County Sheriff, said that Staples was found in an ice chute and most likely died due to a fall.

McMahon made a statement saying:

"Our search and rescue volunteers, as well as those from throughout the entire state, give of themselves and their time selflessly to try to rescue folks that become lost, and today is an example of what they're willing to give to try to help save some of the citizens who, unfortunately, get lost or get hurt in some of the most dangerous parts of our state."
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, and we make sure we do everything in our power to help them through this process, as well as the rest of our volunteers."

Students have already talked about what a great teacher Staples was:
