CLAREMONT (CNS) - A man described as a transient was arrested after allegedly attacking and injuring a police officer this morning in Claremont.
Officers were dispatched about 8:45 a.m. to the 500 block of West First Street to investigate a report of a suspicious transient, according to Claremont Police Department Lt. Karlan Bennett.
An officer located a man matching the transient's description on the first floor of a parking structure, Bennett said.
“As the officer approached ... the subject immediately took a fighting stance and raised both of his fists at the officer,” according to Bennett. “The subject then swung his fist at the officer. The officer was able to block the swing and take the subject to the ground. The officer was repeatedly hit while trying to control the subject.”
Additional officers arrived and the suspect was arrested, but the officer sustained a concussion, a strained right arm and multiple contusions, Bennett said.
The suspect was later identified as 34-year-old Alan Frankel, who was arrested on suspicion of resisting an officer using force or violence, according to Bennett, who said Frankel also had an outstanding arrest warrant, details of which were not made available.
Frankel was being held in lieu of $60,000 bail at the Inmate Reception Center in downtown Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department inmate records.
