A new snow gate used to divert traffic to allow drivers to turn around and go in the other direction came in handy during this week's Thanksgiving weather storm.
The snow gate installed along the I-5 in Castaic was rolled out by Caltrans to move along traffic when a snowstorm forced parts of the freeway to close.
The 52-foot-long steel gate weighs 5 tons and can be opened by hand in less than two minutes and is the first gate of its kind Caltrans has installed in Los Angeles County.
