`Frozen 2' Freezes Out Competition at North American Theaters

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Disney's much-anticipated sequel ``Frozen 2'' lived up to expectations at North American theaters, easily dominating the weekend to claim the top spot at the box office, according to final figures released today.

The animated adventure earned $130.3 million between Friday and Sunday to lead the way at theaters, according to box office tracker Comscore.

That was easily enough to outpace its closest challenger -- the high- octane ``Ford v. Ferrari,'' which finished in a distant second place with $15.7 million.

Tom Hanks' acclaimed performance as Mr. Rogers in ``A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood'' debuted in third place with $13.3 million, followed by another debut film, the crime drama ``21 Bridges,'' which earned $9.3 million over the weekend.

The military drama ``Midway'' took fifth place with $4.6 million.

Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were ``Playing with Fire,'' $4.5 million; ``The Good Liar,'' $3.4 million; ``Charlie's Angels,'' $3.2 million; ``Last Christmas,'' $3.1 million''; and ``Joker,'' $2.7 million.
