Frozen Sets Records at The Box Office

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Audiences warmed to “Frozen 2,” which earned a $127 million North American debut. The hit animated sequel also excited overseas audiences, pulling in an estimated $350 million worldwide, making it the number-one day-and-date global animated debut of all time. It is also the biggest opening ever for Walt Disney Animation Studios as, well as for any animated film outside of summer, and the number-three animated debut of all time. In addition, it earned $18 million in IMAX globally this weekend, setting a new record for biggest IMAX animated opening.

Slipping into second place was FOX's “Ford V. Ferrari,” which took in $16 million in this its second weekend for a North American cumulative through Sunday of $58 million.

Third place belonged to Sony's “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” which debuted with $13.5 million through Sunday. It was followed by “21 Bridges,” opening this weekend with $9.3 million. It was followed by “Midway,” at $4.7 million in this its third weekend for a total through Sunday in North America of $43.1 million.

Rounding out the 10 top-grossing films of the weekend were “Playing with Fire,” $4.6 million; “The Good Liar,” $3.4 million; “Charlie's Angels,” $3.2 million; “Last Christmas,” $3 million” and “Joker,” $2.8 million.
