Metrolink Train Strikes, Kills Pedestrian in San Clemente Area

SAN CLEMENTE (CNS) - A Metrolink train fatally struck a pedestrian in the San Clemente area today.

The collision was reported about 2:40 p.m. and involved a southbound train 815 on the Inland Empire/Orange County Line south of the San Clemente Pier, according to Metrolink spokesman Scott Johnson.

The 53-year-old male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Tony Bommarito, who said the fatality occurred near Trestles Beach.

The man was in a non-pedestrian area when the collision occurred, Johnson said. His name was not released.

The train stopped in an area where the approximately 20 passengers were unable to safely disembark, Johnson said.

The collision occurred in a single-track area, and additional trains on the Inland Empire/Orange County Line due to depart from Oceanside were affected, he said.
