Average L.A. County Gas Price Drops For 17th Day

"Hypermarkets" Offer Consumers Savings At The Gas Pump

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped today for the 17th consecutive day, decreasing 1.9 cents to $3.931, its lowest amount since Sept. 26.

The average price has dropped 19.8 cents over the past 17 days, including 1.8 cents on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 10.1 cents less than one week ago and 22.8 cents lower than a month ago but 27.9 cents more than one year ago. The average price has risen 54 cents since the start of the year.

The Orange County average price dropped for the 18th consecutive day, decreasing 2.2 cents to $3.871, its lowest amount since Sept. 25. It has dropped 21.7 cents over the past 18 days, including 1.6 cents on Thursday.

The Orange County average price is 10.5 cents less than a week ago and 24.7 cents lower than one month ago but 27.1 cents more than a year ago. It has risen 52.2 cents since the start of the year.

“Based on rapid price drops in the Los Angeles wholesale gasoline market this week, we expect the price drops to continue as Thanksgiving approaches,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.
