LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped today for the 16th consecutive day, decreasing 1.8 cents to $3.95, its lowest amount since Sept. 26.
The average price has dropped 17.9 cents over the past 16 days, including nine-tenths of a cent on Wednesday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 10.1 cents less than one week ago and 22.4 cents lower than a month ago but 29.2 cents more than one year ago. The average price has risen 55.9 cents since the start of the year.
The Orange County average price dropped for the 17th consecutive day, decreasing 1.6 cents to $3.893, its lowest amount since Sept. 26. It has dropped 19.5 cents over the past 17 days, including 1.3 cents on Wednesday.
The Orange County average price is 10 cents less than a week ago and 24.3 cents lower than one month ago but 28.3 cents more than a year ago. It has risen 54.4 cents since the start of the year.
Decreasing prices are customary for this time of year because demand is at its lowest and the winter-blend gasoline being sold at stations costs less to produce than the summer blend because its additives are cheaper, according to Marie Montgomery, a public relations specialist with the Automobile Club of Southern California.
