GLENDALE (CNS) - Three men and a woman were arrested on suspicion of burglary today after a pursuit and later a crash on a Glendale freeway offramp, according to a sheriff's sergeant.
The pursuit on the Glendale (2) Freeway began when a deputy from the Crescenta Valley station attempted to stop a reckless driver whose speeds allegedly hit 100 miles per hour, said sheriff's Sgt. John Gilbert.
That was about 9:30 a.m. Some 20 minutes later, the sheriff's department shut down the onramp to the southbound 2 Freeway at Mountain Avenue and requested the California Highway Patrol issue a SigAlert, said CHP Officer Stephan Brandt.
The deputies were concerned about the potential danger to other drivers, Gilbert said.
A short time later, the deputy who initiated the pursuit discovered the car had crashed at the Mountain Avenue offramp.
“After discovering the wreck, we set up a containment area at the site,” Gilbert said. “From the start of the incident to when we ended containment, the whole period was about 40 minutes.”
Four people were detained by deputies at the scene and a large amount of jewelry was found inside their car, he said.
Deputies learned a burglary had taken place at a home in the 800 block of Lynnhaven Lane in La Canada Flintridge. The owners of the home came to the scene and identified the jewelry as theirs, Gilbert said.
The suspects were then arrested and booked for burglary, he said.
They were identified as Jaquan Murphy, 20; Corey Walker, 18; Luis Moreno, 19, and a woman -- DeSerey Garcia, 18, he told City News Service. Murphy was being held on $151,000 bail; Walker on $50,000 bail; Moreno on $20,000 bail and Garcia on $50,000 bail, according to jail records.
The SigAlert was canceled at 4:20 p.m., Brandt said.
