Close-Up Of Illuminated Cars On Street At Night

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CNS) - A 40-year-old Huntington Beach man died while hiking in the Inyo National Forest.

The body of Alan Stringer was found about 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the top of the Darwin glacier, according to the Inyo County Sheriff's Department. He was found near the base of the notch to climb Mount Darwin.

Sheriff's officials found his vehicle at North Lake just after midnight Tuesday, a day after he was scheduled to return home. He had made a cell phone call from downtown Bishop on Sunday before he started his hike.

Stringer, who was characterized as an experienced hiker, did not detail his hiking plans or potential paths and did not activate the ``InReach'' device that he used for treks, according to authorities.
