Authorities Release Surveillance Photo in Deaths of New Hampshire Couple

Authorities in Texas have released a surveillance photo of two individuals they say they want to speak with in connection with the deaths of a New Hampshire couple whose remains were found on a beach last week.

The surveillance photo released by the Kleberg County District Attorney's Office, shows an unidentified man and a woman whom authorities want to "talk to for background on the investigation."

"At this point, we just don't have enough evidence to show they're even our suspects in the murder," Kleberg County District Attorney John Hubert told reporters at a press conference on Monday.

The bodies of James and Michelle Butler, a couple from New Hampshire, were discovered buried in a shallow grave on a Texas beach on Oct. 27, with their 2018 Chevrolet 2500 four-door pickup last seen crossing the border into Mexico. Authorities did not say whether the pair seen in the photo were the ones spotted driving the Butler's truck, but said the two people in the photo were likely Corpus Christi locals.

It's unknown whether there were more people in the back of the vehicle shown in the photograph. Authorities also refused to speculate on how the couple might have come in contact with the Butlers.

The Butlers had reportedly set up camp with their truck and RV trailer on Padre Island, located near Corpus Christi during the week of Oct. 15. Family members reported told KZTV they reported the couple missing after losing contact with the pair, with the last communication with the couple on Oct. 16.

James Butler, a Navy veteran and self-described full-time RVer, was 48. His wife Michelle Butler was 46. The couple had been traveling around the country and had stopped in Texas while on their way to Florida. Relatives filed a missing persons report on them on Oct. 23 after they hadn't heard from them. The couple's cause of death has not been released.

They had five grown children together.
