LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County was unchanged today for the second consecutive day following a streak of four consecutive increases totaling 5.7 cents.
The average price of $4.128 is 4.8 cents more than one week ago and 32.6 cents higher than one year ago but 11.8 cents less than one month ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has risen 73.7 cents since the start of the year.
The increases at the pump were caused by a more than 40-cent per gallon increase in the wholesale price related to “breakdowns at the Chevron refinery in El Segundo and the Phillips 66 refinery in Wilmington,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.
The four-day streak of decreases followed a run of 21 decreases in 22 days totaling 18.7 cents.
The Orange County average price rose two-tenths of a cent to $4.088 one day after dropping one-tenth of a cent. It is 5.3 cents more than a week ago and 34.4 cents higher than a year ago but 12.6 cents less than a month ago. It has risen 73.9 cents since the start of the year.
