A Florida mother was arrested after allegedly punching her ten-year-old son in the face because he wouldn't stop playing Fortnite. 35-year-old Ann Perugia told her son to stop playing the game and take a shower, but after ten minutes, she found that he had not moved.
Perugia told him again to take a shower and the young boy got up and made his way to the bathroom. His mother became "irate" and followed him into the bathroom. She then punched him in the face so hard that she dislocated his jaw.
"This malicious act also caused her son unjustifiable pain and injury," the incident report said. "This act has no valid reason to subject the child to that kind of punishment for failing to listen to his mother."
Perugia told the police a different story about what happened. She claims that after she told her son to take a shower, he stormed off toward the bathroom. She attests that she confronted him about his attitude and he told her: "I hate you, and you don't do anything for me." She never mentioned hitting her son in her statement to the police.
The boy then called his father and began to pack a bag to leave. Perugia told police she grabbed her son by the arm and dragged him back inside the house. She claimed that he went back outside and started throwing rocks at her car.
When the boy's father arrived and he learned what had happened, he decided to press charges.
Perugia was arrested and charged with infliction of mental and physical injury to a child. The boy was taken to stay with his aunt because his father does not have full custody.
