Felicity Huffman Released From Prison Early

Felicity Huffman is a free woman.

According to NBC News, the 56-year-old actress was released from federal prison in Northern California on Friday (October 25) after serving 11 days of her 14-day sentence for her role in the nationwide college admission cheating scandal.

The actress was sentenced to 14-days behind bars in September, despite federal prosecutors asking a judge to sentence the actress to a month in jail. She began her 14-day sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin, California, on October 15.

Huffman pleaded guilty to mail fraud and honest services fraud in May for paying $15,000 to a fake charity associated with Rick Singer, the facilitator of the college scam, "to participate in the college entrance exam cheating scheme on behalf of her oldest daughter." In short, she admitted to paying Rick to have someone correct her daughter's SAT answers.

Following her sentencing, Huffman said in a statement, "I accept the court’s decision today without reservation. I have always been prepared to accept whatever punishment Judge Talwani imposed. I broke the law. I have admitted that and I pleaded guilty to this crime. There are no excuses or justifications for my actions. Period."

As a part of her sentencing, she was also ordered to pay a $30,000 fine and perform 250 hours of community service.

Huffman is among 50 wealthy parents, including Lori Loughlin, who were accused of scamming elite colleges and universities to get their children in. Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, are facing far more serious charges, to which they have both pleaded not guilty and are awaiting trial.
