ANAHEIM (CNS) - A gas leak in Anaheim today forced the closure of a major thoroughfare.
A contractor for a communications company was working on phone lines when a worker accidentally punctured a gas line about 11:30 a.m. near State College Boulevard and Katella Avenue, said Mike Lyster, a spokesman for Anaheim.
All lanes of Katella were closed, but officials hope to reopen some of the lanes within the next couple of hours, Lyster said. Southern California Gas Company officials were able to cap the leak about 12:45 p.m., he added.
No evacuations were necessary. Motorists were encouraged to avoid the area, he said.
