President Trump Announces 'Permanent Ceasefire' In Syria

President Donald Trump is taking the credit for helping broker a "permanent ceasefire" agreement between Turkey and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in northern Syria.

"This was an outcome created by us, the United States, and nobody else. No other nation. Very simple," Trump said. "We're willing to take blame, and we're also willing to take credit."

Trump also ordered the Treasury Department to lift the economic sanctions imposed on Turkey when they invaded Syria. While Trump said that he believes the ceasefire will last, he warned Turkey that if they break the terms, he will reimpose the crippling sanctions on country.

"You would also define the word permanent in that part of the world as somewhat questionable. We all understand that. But I do believe it will be permanent."

Trump said that a small number of U.S. troops will remain in Syria to protect oil fields in the region.
