Teacher on Leave After Video Shows Alleged Chokehold on Student

A high school teacher has been place on administrative leave after a video shows them allegedly placing a student in a chokehold.

The incident occurred at Lynwood High School and began with a verbal argument between two students, one of whom says he had previously asked to be separated from the other teen.

At some point during the argument is when the teacher intervened and appears to physically restrain the first student.

The school district released the following statement, which reads in part:

"The teacher remains on administrative leave while the district works closely with law enforcement to assist them in their thorough investigation. The Lynwood Unified School District does not condone physical violence in any form and takes this matter very seriously. We are fully committed to ensuring all of our schools are safe and secure learning environments for our students, families, and staff. We are working closely with law enforcement to assist them in their investigation."
