Our Stories On The 30th Anniversary Of The Loma Prieta Earthquake

Today is the 30th anniversary of the the Loma Prieta earthquake.

For those that lived in the area at the time, it seems like it was just yesterday.

Shannon remembers the entire thing. The carpool had dropped her off at her home in Novato, so she was all alone. Her mom never felt the shaking while she was driving, so when Shannon explained it all to her, she didn't seem to believe. Well, she didn't believe her until she saw the television coverage and the carpool mom came rushing back to the house to make sure Shannon was safe.

Gary, like many people across the nation, was watching Game 3 of the World Series in his Petaluma house.

You might remember watching this footage live.

Well, KFI Program Director Robin Bertolucci was even closer to the damage.

When the earthquake struck, she was in a reptile store right by the Nimitz Freeway, the same Nimitz Freeway that collapsed due to the earthquake.

Someone caught this picture of her helping people after the disaster.

(She's the woman on the right wearing the black top and carrying the bag.)

We spoke to Robin on the show today about her experience that day.
