Placido Domingo has resigned from the Los Angeles Opera as the general director and will withdraw from any future performances, he announced today.

Domingo, who is currently facing sexual harassment allegations, tells the L.A. Times that intends to work on clearing his name, but the media coverage has been compromising his ability to the job.

The accusations against Domingo were first reported by The Associated Press back in August, who wrote that the opera singer had pressured women into sexual relationships, and sometimes professionally punished those who had rebuffed him.

In addition to being a star singer, Domingo has held leadership positions at Washington National Opera and Los Angeles Opera, the companies where many of the accusers met Domingo.

While Domingo denies the allegations against him, the L.A. Opera is facing allegations they did nothing after hearing about the reported harassment.
