A new scam is targeting the more than 40 million users of the popular Venmo cash app.
Massachusetts police say the scam starts with a text message that claims their Venmo account is about to be charged.
It tells the user to go to a website using any phone number and password to login and decline the charge.
However to do so, they are also asked to verify their bankcard number and other personal and financial information in order to prove their identity.
Authorities say that anyone who has fallen victim to this scam and shared their personal information should report it to the police and contact their bank or credit card lender immediately.
