Leslie Jones Is Leaving 'Saturday Night Live'

Saturday Night Live - Season 43

Leslie Jones will not be returning to Saturday Night Live, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed.

On Tuesday (August 27), it was reported that the funnywoman-slash-actress, who made her SNL debut during an unforgettable segment of Weekend Update in 2014, would not be coming back to the late-night comedy sketch show just a month ahead of its 45th season premiere.

At 47 years old, Jones became the oldest new addition to the SNL cast when she was bumped up to a featured comic on the show five years ago. Some of her most iconic and memorable performances on the long-running series included her Naked and Afraid sketch with Game of Thrones alum Peter Dinklage in 2016, as well as her raunchy Weekend Update sketches with anchor Colin Jost.

Since her entry on the show, Jones has received not one, but two Emmy Award nominations for Supporting Actress in 2017 and 2018. Earlier this year, the comedian earned her third Emmy nom for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for "The Upper East Side."

Despite her well-known reputation on SNL, Jones has since crossed over into cinema with a myriad of blockbuster roles. Although the Memphis native launched her acting career in the early '00s, she is best known for her breakout appearance in 2016's Ghostbusters, and voice-acting in the animated musical comedy Sing that same year.

Jones will also voice the character Zeta in this year's Angry Birds Movie 2, and has been cast to star in the upcoming Coming 2 America sequel, opening in 2020.
