HUNTINGTON BEACH (CNS) - A brawl between Huntington Beach police officers and several civilians tonight resulted in injuries to officers and five people arrested.

Officers spotted a woman drinking alcohol on the beach near Tower 11, north of the Huntington Beach Pier, around 8:40 p.m. and when they contacted her, several people she was with attacked the officers and a large fight broke out, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.

An unspecified number of officers were injured, including one who was taken to a hospital, but was expected to make a full recovery, police said.

“This is a good reminder to everyone that we have a no tolerance approach to alcohol on our beaches,” the department said in a statement.

The fight was not connected to the U.S. Open of Surfing taking place near the Huntington Beach Pier.

Anyone who may have witnessed the brawl was asked to call the HBPD's Tipline at 714-375-5066.
