LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Viewing parties are planned for five sites in Los Angeles County Tuesday for the opening portion of the second set of debates of the 2020 campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.
The parties will be held at:
-- The Gramercy, 2460 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica;
-- Hammer Museum, 10899 Wilshire Blvd., Westwood;
-- Rocco's West Hollywood, 8900 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood;
-- Rusty's, 256 Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica; and
-- 9401 Oakmore Road, Beverlywood.
The 10-candidate debate sanctioned by the Democratic National Committee will begin at 5 p.m. and be televised by CNN. It will be streamed -- without requiring log-in to a cable provider -- on CNN.com, across mobile devices via CNN's apps for iOS and Android, and via CNNgo apps for Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, Chromecast and Android TV.
Under rules set by the DNC, candidates needed to either register 1% support in three qualified polls or have 65,000 unique donors to their campaign, including a minimum of 200 donors in at least 20 states, to qualify for the debate.
A draw determined whether candidates would debate Tuesday or Wednesday. The draw formula used by CNN guaranteed that two of the top four candidates and five of the top 10 would be on the same stage.
The candidates' positions on the stage at the Fox Theatre in Detroit was determined by public polling numbers, with the top candidates at the center. Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders will be in the middle Tuesday.
Standing from left to right will be author Marianne Williamson; Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan; Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar; South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg; Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders; Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren; former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke; former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper; former Maryland Rep. John Delaney; and Montana Gov. Steve Bullock.
Bullock is the only candidate who will participate in the second set of debates who did not participate in the first, for which he failed to meet the criteria.
Dana Bash, Don Lemon and Jake Tapper will be the moderators.
A second 10-candidate debate will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, with watch parties set for the following locations:
-- The Abbey Bar, 692 N. Robertson Blvd., West Hollywood;
-- The Del Monte Speakeasy, 52 Windward Ave., Venice;
-- The Game Sports Bar, 5630 W. Manchester Ave., Westchester; and
-- 9401 Oakmore Road, Beverlywood.
