Firefighters Battling Brush Fire in Thousand Oaks

Firefighters in Thousand Oaks are battling a brushfire that broke out amid a heat wave this afternoon.

The fire was first reported around 4 p.m. Friday afternoon near Newbury Park along the 2900 block of Potrero Road, the Ventura County Fire Department said. Around eight acres of "moderate brush" have burned so far, according to a tweet from the department's account.

Authorities have shut down Potrero Rd. between Wendy Dr. and White Stallion Rd. while firefighters deal with the blaze.

Officials say they believe the blaze has stopped growing and firefighters expect to have it contained by 10 p.m. tonight.
