'The Lion King' Opens With a Whopping $185 Million

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - “The Lion King” is the king of the box office, opening with a spectacular $185 million this weekend to lead all films released domestically, according to industry estimates released today.

Disney's remake of its 1994 film far outpaced last week's top-grossing movie, “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” which was in second place with an estimated $21 million Friday through Sunday at theaters in the United States and Canada, Comscore reported.

“Toy Story 4” was third with $14.6 million, followed by “Crawl” with $6 million and “Yesterday” with $5.1 million.

Rounding out the top 10 releases were “Stuber” ($4 million), “Aladdin” ($3.8 million), “Annabelle Comes Home” ($2.6 million), “Midsommar” ($1.6 million) and “Secret Life of Pets 2” ($1.5 million).
