Fire Damages Three Businesses in Downtown Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Firefighters this morning extinguished a large noninjury fire that damaged three businesses in a 50-foot-by-100-foot building in the Fashion District of downtown Los Angeles.

Crews responded about 4:20 a.m. to the 1200 block of Wall Street, near Pico Boulevard, and located flames through the roof and heavy smoke coming from the three businesses, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

About 4:45 a.m., firefighters were pulled out of the businesses and transitioned to a defensive operation, battling the blaze from the exterior, designated the blaze a greater alarm fire and requested additional task forces, Stewart said.

Crews successfully prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent businesses, and the flames were extinguished in an hour and 49 minutes, the LAFD reported.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. A damage estimate was not immediately available.

Firefighters were expected to remain at the location for several hours and drivers were asked to avoid the area of Wall Street and Pico Boulevard.
