A 12-year old boy is without his twin brother after fatally shooting him with a household firearm. The boys, whose names have not been identified, were home alone when they were playing with an "unsecure firearm." Authorities responded to the incident at the 900 block East Central Avenue at about 7:30 p.m., where they found the twin brother suffering from a gunshot wound, ABC reports.
After gaining access, the two boys were able to load the handgun and point it at one another while playing.
The boy later died in the hospital.
Sgt. John Echevarria with San Bernardino police stated, "It turns out that the weapon was possibly unsecured within the residence and the juvenile was able to retrieve the weapon, was playing with it in the residence and pointed it at the victim and accidentally fired a round."
The children's mother, Gabriela Keeton, 45, has since been arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Reyna with the San Bernardino police at (909) 384-5638 or Sergeant Flores at (909) 384-5659.
